Plein air painting during hunting season is something to be taken very seriously. I was not aware of which hunting season(pheasant, duck, goose) this particular day fell within. I know that in Minnesota, the "main" deer season wasn't for a couple weeks. However, I am aware that there are other popular hunts that go on this time of year.

Towards the end of this plein air study, I started to hear a few gun shots. Now I'm plein air painting in the country, and there are farmsteads all around. I'm not sure if someone was sighting in there gun or someone was out hunting. Either way, the gun shots were enough for me to quickly finish up and head on out.

Please be careful when plein air painting during ANY hunting season. Better yet, wait for the season to end before heading out into area's that are open for hunting. If you do happen to head out plein air painting in an area that's unfamiliar to you, please wear hunters orange this time of year and be aware of parked cars and trucks in the country. Most likely the vehicles are those of hunters that are somewhere close by.
