Follow along with Blick Featured Artist Susan Kuznitsky as she breaks down her approach to plein air painting with pastels. Choose a sturdy easel to work from, then quickly sketch out your composition with big positive and negative shapes using a charcoal pencil. Lay in flat areas of color with pastels, then brush over the colors with a solvent to turn them into a paintlike pigment. Continue to add details and shadows, being sure to layer your lightest colors last.
