Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre accused the Liberal government during question period on Tuesday of promising trickledown economics while “tak[ing] money away” from small businesses and workers.

“Now, a recordsmashing 25 per cent of Canadians live in poverty after nine years of his taxes, his deficits and his doubling housing costs. Why is he going ahead with the same economics that caused the poverty in order to solve it?” Poilievre asked.

“The Leader of the Opposition talks about affordability, but he's standing against raising taxes on the wealthiest so we can give more support to those who actually need it,” Trudeau responded.

A new report from Food Banks Canada suggests the number of Canadians living in poverty may be higher than previously thought, with the organization estimating 25 per cent could fall under this category because they cannot afford two or more household essentials.
