Shuttleworth Collection

During WW2 the Po2 showed great versatility, being used for many different tasks from training, stretcher carrying and night bombing (carrying up to 350kg of bombs) to, in 1943, being fitted with large loudspeakers and used on nuisance raids, broadcasting noises throughout the night to keep the enemy awake. The Shuttleworth aeroplane was built in 1944 in the Soviet Union but its operational history is unknown until it was introduced in a group of 30 given to Yugoslavia in 1946. There it flew first at the Military Air Force Academy at Pancevo before being transferred to the Yugoslav Airclub where it was used for glider towing and parachute training. It then passed into private ownership and thence finally to Old Warden where it has been restored to airworthy condition.
