Popliteal Artery (A. poplitea)
Course:
○ Direct continuation of the femoral artery. Runs superficially in the popliteal fossa and divides into two terminal branches (Tibialis anterior and posterior) in front of popliteus muscle
Side Branches:
○ Superior Medial Genicular artery (A. superior medialis genus)
○ Superior Lateral Genicular artery (A. superior lateralis genus)
○ Inferior Medial Genicular artery (A. inferior medialis genus)
○ Inferior Lateral Genicular artery (A. inferior lateralis genus)
○ Middle Genicular artery (A. media genus)
○ Sural arteries (Aa. surales)
Patellar network (Rete articulare genu) blood supply of the knee:
Descending genicular artery (A. descendens genus)
○ Saphenous branch
○ Muscular and articular branches
Descending branch of lateral femoral circumflex artery
Posterior and anterior recurrent tibial branches of anterior tibial artery
