Population density spike maps in QGIS

Map Academy

A big part of doing any work with GIS software is knowing where to find data, knowing how to manipulate it and then being able to style it in different ways. In this video we look at some population point data for Germany, from the absolutely fantastic WorldPop website. The WorldPop project has data for all countries in the world so you can probably even try this for your own country.

Just be patient (or get a new computer!) if you're trying to do Canada, the USA, Australia or other very large countries. That's something we can't do much about here I'm afraid. But if you're patient and have enough processing power it will work.

This isn't a particularly fancy or exciting map, but hopefully you can be inspired to use the methods to produce something great :)

Here are the links to the web pages in the video, as well as a link to a world cities csv you can import into QGIS and display world cities with.
