Portable Air Conditioner - No window? No problem! Vent exhaust thru wall stealthy magnetic cover.

UnchartedDIY

AC vent hose too short? No window? Extending the exhaust hose can overheat and ruin these expensive coolers. Steve from Uncharted DIY shows step by step how to vent through the wall. This solution features a stealthy magnetic interior cover for when the AC isn't hooked up. **See NOTE below for a new detail not in the video.**

• Make a simple magnetic cover to hide the vent hole when not in use.
• Insulate the passage to eliminate drafts and heat loss.
• Keep bugs and critters outside with a louvered exterior vent cover.

You don't have to suffer with a hot room!

Steps in this video:

02:38 Cut hole inside
07:08 Build a duct box to go through wall
11:02 Cut hole outside
12:07 Install covers

Check out my review of a portable AC from Keystone with heat!    • Keystone 4 in 1, 13,000 BTU Portable ...

This project uses a Honeywell MN10CESWW 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control. Amazon link: https://amzn.to/3YO0awF The Honeywell and the Keystone (review link above) are fantastic air conditioners, but MUST be vented to function. Problem solved with this project!

This expands on Chris10077's project    • Ventilating A Portable Air Conditione...   by adding exterior cover with screen, magnetic cover for inside, and insulation to seal it for winter.

***NOTE: Viewers/commenters "Microwaved Soda" and "Stacks 600" brought up a concern about moist exhaust air eventually rotting out the wood in the wall. The way the tunnel is made and mounted, the exhaust air cannot get to the inside of the wall, but the MDF (medium density fiberboard or particle board) the tunnel is made from IS exposed to the air. I am going to paint the inside of the tunnel with a couple of coats of polyurethane (but not waterbased poly) to seal the wood. If you seal or paint the tunnel before installing it, you'll save some time, but it can be done pretty easily with it already in place. Thank you Microwaved Soda and Stacks 600 for bringing this to my attention!
