Why is Positano famous?
Find out what to see in Positano: 10 attractions not to be missed
Positano is a splendid town on the Amalfi Coast, famous for its colorful houses overlooking the sea and its enchanting beaches. Among the main attractions are the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the picturesque alleys and the excellent local cuisine.

It's hard to find a better subject for a photographer: Positano is a postcard from every angle.
Once a peaceful fishing village, it is one of the most fashionable destinations for famous people and travelers from around the world. It began to attract a large share of tourists in the 1950s, especially after John Steinbeck published an essay about this place in May 1953 where he wrote: “Positano affects us deeply. It’s a dream place that doesn’t seem real to you while you’re there and it becomes nostalgically real when you leave.”

The origins of this charming place are mixed between history and legend. As in the past, myths are the remedy for the lack of actual data: one of them attributes the founding of Positano to Poseidon, the god of the sea, for the love of the nymph Pasitea.

It is an almost impossible city: on the slopes of the Lattari Mountains, it forms a colorful landscape that overlooks the Mediterranean Sea with a view that extends to the sea, the islands and the other centers of the Costiera Amalfitana.

Positano itself is a sight to visit: the alleys are narrow passages between houses and steep staircases that intersect the alleys. Only one road crosses the town, Viale Pasitea, the rest of the village is only accessible on foot, between shops, art galleries, artisan workshops, restaurants, cafes and bougainvillea waterfalls.

Positano
Marina Grande beach is the most famous and frequented and offers one of the most beautiful panoramas of the characteristic cascade of colorful houses. A panoramic path – which runs along the sea and the Saracen watchtowers – leads to Fornillo beach, for those who prefer less crowded places.

Pearl of the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy, Positano clings to the rocks overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Between Sorrento and Amalfi, Positano is the most touristy village on the Italian coast south of Naples. Historically linked to the Republic of Amalfi, Positano owes its wealth to maritime trade with the Near and Middle East in the 16th century.
From the 20th century, thanks to its idyllic location, the village became a vacation spot for the wealthy and artists, a symbol of la dolce vita made in Italy. Today luxury villas, hotels, fashion stores pile up in a crowded historic center, but the charm of Positano, its beaches and its splendid viewpoints, still operates. Treat yourself to an Italian vacation between sea and mountains.

According to legend, Neptune, the god of the sea in Roman mythology, built this little corner of paradise in homage to a nymph with whom he was madly in love.

Moreover, Positano has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997!

Therefore, I advise you to take a short day to visit Positano during your stay on the Amalfi Coast. The opportunity to make a stop between Sorrento and Amalfi, for example. If possible, avoid leaving during the summer: choose a trip out of season. Particularly in spring (April and May) and at the beginning of autumn (October).

I thank you for accompanying me on this journey, I hope you like it, and I hope to see you again soon, I wish you blessed days and much love, with great respect I send you many leaps, with love Sebastian ❤
