After the completion of the Shahpur Kandi dam, India has stopped the flow of Ravi River water to Pakistan. As per the Indus Water Treaty signed in 1960, India will now retain 1,150 cusecs of water previously directed to Pakistan. This water will be used for irrigation purposes in the Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir, benefiting over 32,000 hectares of land. The treaty was designed to ensure fair distribution of water between India and Pakistan. To learn more about the benefits of the Ravi River water for India, please watch the attached video.
