Power Factor Correction in Electric Power Systems

This is not a lecture, but rather a quick summary of the lecture on power factor correction for my students who have a midterm in a few days, as a way to review concepts. It has a couple of numerical examples, one of them for the viewer to work out on his/her own. It reviews the different types of power of interest in the analysis of ACSS power systems, and on the important concept of power factor. The frequency in the last numerical example, 60 Hz/377 rad/s, is the frequency of the power utility of your own country. I am in Canada and our system operates at 60 Hz, so omega = 2 x pi x 60 approximately 377 rad/s.
