Since the mid2000's, PNNL has tackled some of the most important energy storage challenges by leveraging deep roots and long history in materials science research. Today, PNNL is leading several major energy storage programs for the Department of Energy. This work has had many scientific breakthroughs including efforts to address battery longevity, capacity, cold weather performance, and improved technologies from lithiumion and lithiummetal batteries, along with breakthroughs on flow and sodiumion batteries.
