Patrick Brown, MD, Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, discusses the latebreaking abstract data on the phase 3 trial (AALL1331; NCT02101853) of blinatumomab for the treatment of relapsed Bcell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BALL). This trial studies how well blinatumomab works compared with standard combination chemotherapy in children and adolescents/young adults. Blinatumomab demonstrated superior efficacy and tolerability as postreinduction consolidation prior to HSCT, resulting in higher rates of MRD response, greater likelihood of proceeding to HSCT and improved diseasefree and overall survival. This press briefing was recorded at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) 2019 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando, FL.
