In some patients who are in early stages with low Gleason scores, the doctor takes the option of ‘active surveillance’ since prostate cancer is a slow growing condition. Whatever the situation, ‘Don’t Panic’ as Prostate Cancer is completely curable.

He advised on the pros and cons of the prostate surgery. He highlighted that simple exercises ensure that cons are taken care of within a few months to a year, and the patient can have a normal life postsurgery.

Dr Ahluwalia emphasised the need for screening (PSA Test) for men above 55 years once a year even if there are no symptoms. In case of a family history, screening should begin at 40 years. Catching malignancy early through the screening test is key to a complete cure.
