Let's talk about dealing with sweat and prosthetics. What are some options to mitigate sweat, help ensure a better fit, and take care of your residual limb. If you're doing any kind of heavy workout, chances are good you'll want to regularly take off your liner and dump the sweat out.

While sweat is unavoidable, there are options to mitigate it. Everyone is so different. Some people may sweat more. Some less. Some of you may have ultrasensitive skin. Ultimately, your best bet is try a few different things. If you have really sensitive skin, I'd definitely recommend talking to a dermatologist about specialized options.

My first line of defense is linerliners. Just like you were socks on your feet, wearing a linerliner on your residual limb can help wick sweat.

Notes & Links:
Knitrite LinerLiner: These are my everyday liner. I keep them in the drawer by the bed and love them. They can also help reduce shearing/pinching from your rubber liner. Whenever your knee bends, it stretches and can cause some shearing with your skin that's really uncomfortable. With a linerliner, you have an extra layer that can slide between your skin and liner.

Swiftwick Amputee LinerLiner: These are thicker linerliners, and I won't work out or do heavy physical activity without one. I usually layer them over the thinner linerliners. If I know I'm going to be out for a while, I'll even bring extras and change them every couple of hours.

Amputee Essentials Resilience Ultrarich Moisturizer: When your residual limb does take a beating, this can help after you take your leg off.

Alps Silicon Skin Lotion: This can be great to put on and reduce friction. You can use it daily or just when you anticipate heavy activity.

Alps Prosthetic Ointment: Whenever my leg hurts from dry or damaged skin, this is my go to. I'll put it on at night on any affected areas. When I do, I always make sure to wear a stump shrinker too because the ointment is kind of greasy, and nobody wants that on their bed.

Alps Prosthetic Antiperspirant Spray: This is just a solid antiperspirant spray. The only downside is having the patience to wait for it to dry. If I'm going on a long bike ride or run, I'll set aside the time to wait for it to dry, but otherwise, I'm not great about being that patient.

Certain Dri Prescription Strength: Certain Dri is a fairly popular brand of antiperspirant. Like the Alps Spray, it has to dry as well. It may be easier to find as well.

Body Glide Antichafe Balm: Shearing between your skin and liner/linerliners can happen. Even if sweating isn't a big issue for you, shearing can be. This can help on that front.

Body Glide Skin Glide: Just like the antichafe balm and silicon lotion, this is just another option to help ensure less shearing and chafing.
