Harnessing the power of regenerative medicine. “For example, when you get a cut, your body sends platelets to that cut and repairs the cut. But there are certain areas of your body which do not have adequate blood flow for appropriate healing,” said Independent Musculoskeletal Radiologist Dr. Jamal Ksar.

But now thanks to Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP injections, patients can manage injuries and pain with a simple blood draw. “We take that blood and we're able to place it into a specialized centrifuge, which spins the blood at different rates and different frequencies in order to isolate the healing properties in the blood that we're interested in,” said Dr. Ksar.

Clinicians use an ultrasound to inject the platelets into the right spot. “So basically what we're doing is we're harnessing the healing factors within your blood, concentrating them, and then injecting them exactly where they're needed to stimulate your body to heal,” said Dr. Ksar.

PRP has been popular for years among professional athletes, now it’s offered at Lee Health Florida Radiology Centers. Dr. Ksar said it can help with a variety of conditions. “Mild to moderate arthritis in a joint, specifically the knee joint. Things like tendonitis, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, tendonitis of your rotator cuff, very small tears and tendons.”

Currently PRP is offered as a selfpay procedure at Lee Health’s Florida Radiology locations. Speak with your doctor to see if it would be right for you.
