Bes, an ancient Egyptian deity, a guardian figure. Worshiped for centuries by ordinary Egyptians who could address him directly and ask him to protect them against evil, especially during childbirth. Its grotesque appearance had two functions: to cheer people up and scare away evil spirits. Where did this rather strange idol come from? Did his cult remain forever in the comfort of Egyptian homes? Why was he such a significant deity to ancient women? What did the Bes cult rituals look like?
