The F15E Strike Eagle, passionately called the Mudhen due to it's darker color scheme in comparison to the rest of the Eagle family, is the groundattack oriented version based on the F15D Eagle. One of the most notable features of this bird is the removable Conformal Fuel Tanks (CFTs) found on the outside of the intakes. These CFTs allowed for extra range available to the jet and doubles as extra pylons too. On them, pilots can carry a wide assortment of dumb bombs, guided bombs (including the JDAM), and radar guided AirtoAir Missiles. Entering service officially in 1988, the Mudhen first saw combat in the 1991 Operation Desert Storm and was used as an allweather night attack fighter, working in conjunction with other Air Force planes to wipe out targets of interest in Iraq. When conflict broke out in Kosovo in 1999, F15Es from RAF Lakenheath were one of the very first jets into Serbia, hitting SAM sites, AA Batteries, and Early Warning Radar stations. The Strike Eagle was also present in conflicts in Africa and Afghanistan since the start of the 21st century, so it is not new to combat experience. Since its introduction, it has had a multitude of modifications allowing it to continue to serve potentially into the 2030s.
