The work was dedicated to Wilhelmine SchröderDevrient, a soprano. So, you know, shut up forever.

Y'all life has been absolutely wild, but....if I can't do a 15 minute reaction video I can AT LEAST record 90 seconds of Schumann, for twitter user @ jaybatzner's QuaranLieder commission. Jay very graciously offered me carte blanche in choosing a piece, and I couldn't resist this wellknown pearl (lmao at the pun go look at the lyrics) Also, Jay is a composer and YOU SHOULD GO LISTEN TO HIS MUSIC.

I know these lyrics are pretty wistful, heartbreaking little lines, but I always interpret Dichterliebe as having those poignant little moments of "wow I am utterly heartbroken but also I'm a complete idiot, and my remaining two brain cells are bouncing around in my skull like that Windows 98 Screensaver so all I can really do is laugh at myself"

This piece is titled Allnächtlich im Traume seh' ich dich. Here is the poetic translation:
Nightly I see you in dreams – you speak
With kindliness sincerest;
I throw myself, weeping aloud and weak,
At your sweet feet, my dearest.
You look at me with wistful woe,
And shake your golden curls;
And stealing from your eyes there flow
The teardrops like to pearls.
