VOCABULARY

Reserve: A month or day schedule requiring a crew member to be available on a "standby" basis in the event of unforeseen scheduling emergencies.

Various reserve types:
12 hour notice: Long Call Reserve (12am11:59pm)
2 hour notice: AM reserve (4am4pm), PM reserve (9am9pm),
15 minute notice: Ready Reserve aka "Airport Appreciation"

Deadhead: When the company places a crew member on a scheduled flight with a confirmed seat ticket for the purpose of relocating them for work.

NonRevenue (Standby): An airline employee traveling for personal reasons if space is available.

Jumpseat: A collapsible seat in the flight deck available to be occupied by authorized personnel with the PIC's permission.

Leg: Refers to each flight on a crewmember's itinerary.

Line: A series of flights sequenced together to produce a monthly work schedule.

Layover: The crewmember time spent on the ground between scheduled flights for a given day.

Overnight: The crewmember time spent on the ground between the last flight on a given day and the first flight the following day.
