From 900 to 1168 C.E., the Toltec Empire flourished as one of Mesoamerica's most powerful societies. Their capital city, Tula, was renowned for its opulent palaces adorned with gold and jewels. The Toltecs attributed their prosperity to Quetzalcoatl, a deity and former king whose reign marked a Golden Age for their empire.

Legend has it that Quetzalcoatl was born as Ce Acotl a demigod with a human mother and Mixcoatl, the cloud serpent god. Tragically orphaned at birth when his mother passed away, baby Ce Acotl faced an uncertain future in a world where orphans often endured poverty or slavery. Friends of his mother attempted to save him from such hardships by trying to drown him in a river.

However, fate intervened as Ce Acotl miraculously floated among the river reeds instead of sinking beneath them. This extraordinary event would shape his destiny and set him on a path that would leave an indelible mark on Mesoamerican mythology.
