Quit your nursing job the right way by using these simple tips. There will come a day when you'll want to quit your current nursing job so that you can advance to another position, move, or even retire.

Before you quit, you'll want to make sure that you do these five things:

1. Give an adequate notice. I'm not talking about abruptly quitting, and letting your employer "notice" that you never returned. I'm talking about a professional notice. This can be a two weeks' notice or up to a month (or more, if necessary).

2. Give your boss a letter of resignation. Don't send a text or message your boss on social media. Instead, take time to type a professional letter of resignation, and hand that to your boss in person. The letter should include all of the necessary details, such as the last date you plan to work (at least two weeks from the date you turn it in), and other information you plan to include.

3. Don't tell others that you are quitting BEFORE you have a chance to tell your boss. People gossip, and you don't want your boss to find out before you have a chance to let them know.

4. Don't say negative things about your coworkers or boss. Saying negative things will only cause drama and unnecessary negativity. Instead, show some class by being respectful and professional on the job.

5. Secure references. You'll want to get the contact information and ask for references from your coworkers. This will help you in case you ever need them. In addition, offer to be a reference for your boss or coworkers.
