Rabindranath wrote a number of satirical plays that contained comedy songs; as well as added comedy songs in more serious plays with deep philosophical underpinnings. The underlying idea in both streams stems from the fact that laughter lightens the burden of our life. Rabindranath Tagore has delved deep into life and imbibed its beauty, accepting life as a mingle of laughter and tears and viewed it with equal eagerness and curiosity. At the same time, he has swum in the current of mirth and merriment of life. Tagore’s mind was like a fountain where from came out ceaselessly the flow of humour.
Two production houses of India (UD Series) and Bangladesh (G Series) in 2015 simultaneously published two albums sung by Chanchal Khan with the same contents, but under two different titles, “Katabonobiharini”and “O bhai kanai”.
The seven plays from which these songs have been taken are:
Balmiki Pratibha
Bibaho Utsab
Bini Poyshar Bhoj
Bhorsha Mongol
Chiro Kumar Shabha
Goray Golod; Hoi Hoi Shangho; and
Tasher Desh.
