Boats in the 2022 Race to Alaska (R2AK) have to make a strategic choice on which direction to sail around Vancouver Island. The inside route is shorter, but is infested with floating logs, current gates, and nasty standing waves.

The Race to Alaska is a 650NM boat race from Port Townsend Washington to Ketchikan Alaska with only one rule – the boat can’t have an engine.
