Key facts about the radial nerve
Origin
The posterior cord of the brachial plexus (from the ventral rami of C5T1)
Muscular innervation
Arm muscles: triceps, anconeus, brachioradialis,
Forearm muscles: extensor carpi radialis longus, extensor carpi radialis brevis, supinator, extensor digitorum, extensor digiti minimi, extensor carpi ulnaris, abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, extensor pollicis longus, extensor indicis
Mnemonic
'Radial nerve innervates the BEST muscles' (Brachioradialis, Extensors, Supinator, Triceps)
Sensory innervation
The inferior lateral cutaneous nerve of arm: lower outer aspect of the arm
The posterior cutaneous nerve of the arm: posterior surface of the arm
The posterior cutaneous nerve of the forearm: central, posterior aspect of the forearm
The superficial branch of the radial nerve: thenar eminence and dorsal aspect of the radial 3 and a half digits of the hand
