RAF Balderton / USAAF Station 482 - A Forgotten WW2 Bomber Command Airfield in Nottinghamshire

Authority was given in September 1939 for the acquisition of flat, low lying land at Balderton in Nottinghamshire 2 miles south of Newark for an airfield

RAF Balderton opened on the 14th of June 1941 in No 7 Group Training Command but was soon transferred to No 5 group Bomber Command for No 408 Squadron with Hampdens

The airfield was officially taken over by the Ninth Air Force Troop Carrier Command on New Year's Day 1944 and was numbered as Station 482. The airfield was to be used as a reception centre for the 437th and the 439th troop carrier groups arriving from the United States.

later in 1944 the 439th used Balderton for operation Market Garden before the station transferring back to No 5 Group for No 227 Squadron with Lancasters

The 1st of June 1945 saw Balderton used for munitions storage and Disposal a role it continued in until finally closed in 1957
