Scott Johnson, PK Steffen, and Coach Pat. Three legendary dads come together to bike the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund's 100 mile ride to cure diabetes in Death Valley National Park located in Eastern California.

Coach Pat talks me into the ride. I talk Scott Johnson into the ride, and then pull in PK as well.

The event raises $1.2 million dollars for JDRF to allocate money for research to find a cure. One moment that resonates with me is when PK discusses those who have fundraised for years, such as Berry on his 49th ride, and only seeing big breakthroughs in the last 5 years.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that can happen to anyone at any time. Specifically, your body stops producing a hormone, called insulin, that breaks down carbohydrates aka an essential energy source.

Scott Johnson has lived with type 1 diabetes for 40 years. Coach Pat and PK Steffen both have daughters who live with type 1 diabetes.
