Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel pick up truck Engines are facing a MASSIVE 1.7 Billion Dollar fine in EPA Lawsuit and penalty for allegedly using emission defeat devices on there Diesel Engines. Myself as a Cummins Certified Diesel mechanic, go into depth on what parts of the emissions system Cummins was evading. I talk about the impact this could have on the diesel truck industry and the future of Cummins and RAMS relationship.

Well I hope everyone had awesome holidays, and I wanted to start off 2024 with a bit of a bang. So we have this awesome RAM 3500 High Output Cummins diesel truck and we are diving into the 1.7 Billion dollar fine cummins is going to recieve from the EPA for using defeat devices on their diesel engine which has lead to more emission being released from their engines.

cummins apparently is releasing too much nox gases from their engines. somehow they were able to by pass emission testing and allow their engines to be on the road without them derating for too much nox emissions

most people think of diesel emission as just black smoke (diesel particulate matter) but there are other elements like nox gases. these gases are very hard to see or smell and so these cummins engines are not dumping black smoke or rolling coal all over the road.

As I showed you guys there are multiple components to a modern diesel emission system. there are Diesel particulate filters and Diesel exhaust fluid which all play a part in the emission system. I try and explain the basic principles of each and this is why these aftertreatment systems are so complex and unreliable. its no surprise Cummins was trying to bypass some of the regulations.

I think the hard part to predict is what the fall out is going to be. we don't know if there are going to be massive recalls or buy back programs like VW did with their dieselgate scandals.

the issue is that these are not cummins trucks they are RAM trucks and we don't know how this is going to affect their relationship.

Anyways guys let me know what you think!
