The bottom of Rancheria Road is only 15 mins outside of Bakersfield, CA. About a mile from the mouth of the Kern Canyon. The road takes you up almost 4k ft up Rancheria Canyon onto Oak Flat. The Oak Flat Lookout Tower is about an hour up. These are the Greenhorn Mountains. This is an excellent drive for folks that like driving fire roads and almost any stock 4x4 or AWD can go up. Make sure to use low gears and don't let your brakes get hot coming down though as it is steep.
