I decided to sit down and rank the top 5 best (my favourite) Disney movie soundtracks. Here is the result of that decision.

Video Highlights (transcript):

At Number 5: The Little Mermaid
This collection of wonderful tunes topped off by the iconic Part of your world. TLM is a soundtrack from the era of the Alan Menkin and Howard Ashman dream team, the two legends responsible for a some of Disney’s most iconic songs. They brought heart, warmth and humour to the songs of the little mermaid. From Under The Sea to Kiss The Girl and poor unfortunate souls, this is a soundtrack full of catchy and powerful tunes. Part of your world, I would argue, being a contester for greatest Disney song of all time a contester, I’m open for the discussion on that. Wonderfully performed and distinctly memorable, I would be remiss not to include this soundtrack on this list.

At number 4: Aladdin
Another soundtrack from the Menkin Ashman era, but unfortunately, Ashman would die of AIDS before the film was completed and Tim Rice took over as lyricist. Ashman lives on through a phenomenal body of work including this incredible soundtrack. Full of mystery and fun, the Aladdin soundtrack brings the kingdom of Agrabah to life. The inspiring love song A Whole New World… man, I just had a sudden memory of singing that as part of the choir in primary school. Gosh. Anyway, who could forget Robin Williams incredible performance as they genie. Bringing us the brilliant Friend Like Me and Prince Ali. The soundtrack is rounded out with the exciting One Jump Ahead which is then beautifully reprised in a much more touching and heartfelt rendition. The movie Aladdin was never high on my list of favourites growing up, but the stellar soundtrack certainly is.

At number 3: Moana
I love Polynesian culture and music. I think the art and architecture are beautiful. So the Moana soundtrack didn’t take much to win me over. Plus, I’m a huge LMM fan and he wrote a lot of the songs so… that certainly didn’t hurt. The Moana soundtrack is a wonderful collection of songs, perfectly mixing traditional music from the Pacific with a blend of more pop and broadway vibes this is true of the lyrics as well, which often mixes English lyrics with Polynesian vocals. It’s a Disney soundtrack like no other, and I’m not just saying that because Dwayne Johnson has a song on it he crushes it by the way. You’re welcome is an absolute bop. One other thing I really like about this soundtrack is the score. More than Aladdin or Little mermaid, I will often find myself listening to the score as well as the songs, it’s just beautiful beautiful music. Big fan.

At number 2: It’s The Princes & The Frog
I only watch The Princess and the frog recently, but man does that soundtrack rock. Firstly, just like with Moana, I love New Orleans as a city and the music too. I'm lucky enough to have gone to New Orleans, click here for that video, and listening to this soundtrack reminds me so much of the city. It’s jazzy and fun and exciting and ah it’s just paints such a fabulous picture of new Orleans. But I don’t only love this soundtrack because' of it’s connect to the big easy, the songs stand on their own two feet. Whether its the inspirational Almost There or the sinister Friends On The Other Side or the surprisingly touching Ma Belle Evangeline, this soundtrack is packed with songs that give me such warm feelings right in here. It’s headbobbing, foottapping fun that gives jazz music a Disney polish and I love it.

Anyway, moving onto my number 1. My favourite, and I actually think the best, Disney soundtrack of all time: Mary Poppins.

Where do I start with a soundtrack that is literally full of some of the most classic songs in cinema history, let alone Disney’s! Well, let’s start at the beginning with maybe the most beautiful Overture a film has ever had and then follow that up with great song after great song after great song after great song. Everyone knows the iconic Supercal and Spoonful of sugar, but even the supporting songs are gold. The adorable song The Perfect Nanny, the uplifting finale Let’s go fly a kite, sister suffocate, the life I lead, chim chim cheery, and that’s only like halve the great songs in this soundtrack! Step in time give us one of Hollywood’s most amazing dance numbers. Written by the Sherman brothers, who are arguably some of the greatest songwriters of all time, it’s a soundtrack that stands the test of time despite being almost 60 years old. I also can’t talk about this soundtrack without mentioning the incredibly moving Feed The Birds.

So there you go, those are my top five favourite Disney soundtracks. I would love to know what you think of my list and what some of your favourite soundtracks are, doesn’t even have to be Disney, let me know in the comment section down below! Thank you for watching.
