This is a short 8mm film that I bought that was simply labeled "Air Force Jets". After checking it out I realized that I was looking at film taken at then Pinecastle Air Force Base in Orlando Florida, later renamed McCoy Air Force Base. This film features British Valiant Bombers and Vulcan Bombers and the American B47 StratoJets of the 321st Bombardment Wing of the United States Air Force. The B47 was the predecessor of the B52 Stratofortress. This footage was from the Strategic Air Command Competition between the American and British bombers. A B47 piloted by Colonel Michael McCoy would crash in October of 1957 a month before the competition was to take place taking his life and the lives of four others. Along with Colonel McCoy, Wing Commander John Woodroffe of the Royal Air Force, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Joyce and Major Vernon Dale Stuff also died in the crash. This film was taken in October, a month before the competition.
