What an exciting catch this is! This is only my 2nd time ever catching this classic soviet era turboprop. Very cool visitor to Ottawa!
Vulkan Air is a cargo charter airline based in Ukraine, they operate a fleet of 3 vintage Antonov AN26's. With a maximum payload of 6.3 tonnes, the aircraft is ideal for smaller cargo charter operations.
The Antonov AN26 is a classic turboprop built between 1969 1986 in the Soviet Union. There are still quite a few airframes still flying today however they are becoming increasingly rare especially for North American spotters!
Although the airline generally stays within Europe, every so often they get a contract in North America which requires various fuel stops due to the aircraft's limited range. This visit was a quick fuel stop as the aircraft arrived from Goose Bay and continued on to Memphis.
