How not to make a mess of rare & expensive Bougainvillea cuttings #HughEvans #AlabamaSunset #Rosenka

Hugh Evans bougainvillea is beloved for the coloring of its beautiful papery bracts, which vary according to the light intensity and their maturity between shades of apricot, burnt orange, salmon, and coral.

These are best grown in a container in a conservatory or greenhouse and can be enjoyed outdoors in a sunny spot during the summer. Ideally, this variety of bougainvillea is pretty pruned into a standard, otherwise, it will need a trellis or support. Grow in welldrained, slightly acidic soil.
Now when getting a cutting, from a neighbor or from your own garden, the best would be to get one whole branch, it would help the parent plant recover better than making an abrupt cut somewhere at the apex or in the middle. The whole branch will make sure the cut is near the main stem and easier to heal, so please do that and more importantly, you will have so many cuttings of different sizes that you can propagate and be merry.

Let the cuttings sit in cinnamon powder and water solution for 24 hours and if you wish to keep those flowers, branches alive for a couple of days on your coffee table, treat them also in the same solution

Yes, I am making the initial pots for my cuttings, works fantastic and costs nothing, so why not

3 weeks; that’s the limit, if the cuttings don’t show any signs of being alive, time to reset and regroup for another haul, I hope that doesn’t happen to you but sometimes things go wrong even if they aren’t supposed to

After a month, they were introduced to direct sun and watch them take off. In the shade, water once every 34 days and once in the sun, water once every 57 days

Another suggestion, no treatment for anything, pests, weeds or leaf rot or whatever during these initial days, let the plant make its own escapes and defend its area, you just have to take care of watering and its sunlight requirements

They have been growing so well and they are getting all tangled up, I so want to prune them but that would be detrimental to their growth and who would want that, ugly as they may look, for now, you are helping them help you by doing nothing for now

And here’s the customary timelapse, I love watching it over and over again, over time I make these, I am sure you would enjoy it, looking at those bracts and flowers in their initial glory

The bracts have turned pale pink over the course of 34 days, pretty awesome, right

Here you will see a bunch of bracts right in the middle of all those colors we speak about, nothing beats this sight. Another Bougainvillea is starting to show buds and the bunch looks even bigger than the already flowered one, a great sign. This is the best start you can offer these plants, small things put right during the initial few months can give the plant a push for a great future without doing anything fancy that would ultimately prove fatal for the plant

Let us see what’s going on under the soil, given the plant has grown more than a foot long and branched out well and in bloom, should be interesting to look at these sturdy and welldeveloped roots. This is just for demonstration, please don’t try anything like this or repot a newly propagated plant this soon, wait at least 45 months before going for a pot

I am leaving you with a bonus tip, every time you repot or change locations of a Bougainvillea, meaning once their roots are exposed as we did for the video; they would dry out as you see here, no one can stop it from happening, no matter what you do! However they are no way dead or dying, it simply is their way of coping with the change in environment simply keep such a plant in a shaded area for about 45 days and water at least 3 times during that time and once it's back to its full glory, let it be in the sun and

I am sure you can relate to the feeling when you see a new plant flourishing like this, doesn’t matter you started it with a cutting or from seed or you bought it online or store, plants are lovely and they have the power to change not just your mood but your life and as you are here right now, watching this, says a lot about your priorities in life, you support health, wellness and happiness in this world, please continue on this path for as long as you can and then some more. I would take your leave now, thank you so much for your time, you have been an awesome audience, take care and stay safe, stay healthy. I will see you tomorrow with other interesting videos until then keep sharing, commenting, and liking. Cheers!! Goodbye!!
