RCRCM Sunbird maiden flight - rc slope soarer

Slope Soarer

I finally flew my rcrcm Sunbird for the first time. I took it to Mynydd Meio in fairly light winds on a warm sunny day. The flight was almost over after a couple of seconds when a gust caught the plane and almost turned it right over. Thankfully I managed to recover it just in time. I'm really pleased with the glider. It's very nimble, responsive and slippery. I got pretty frustrated with the assembly because it's a small glider and really difficult to package all the gear. The instruction manual is poor and some of the components aren't particularly good quality. However on reflection after my maiden flight, it's good value for money and lots of fun to fly. When I first took it out of the box my initial thought was how delicate the boom looked. When I reached the top of the slope an experienced flier was just packing up and while we were chatting he mentioned how the tail is very weak. As you will see, unfortunately I made a very bad landing and you guested it snapped the boom. I think I can revive it with a few turns of fibre glass so hopefully I'll be back flying soon. I've heard it's pretty good for doing stunts so hopefully that will be my next video.
