01.06.2024 — «I think the most important skills anyone should learn today are mathematics, programming, reading, writing, talking, and psychology. But not the psychology universities teach — more the psychology Charlie Munger speaks about. The school system replaces curiosity with compliance. Cooperation is the worst; everyone needs to take care of their own stuff. This is completely the opposite of what happens once you start investing or working on something. Cofounders become your friends, you go through hell together, and cooperation is the only vehicle you have to keep going.

Looking back, dropping out and skipping university was one of the best decisions I made. Doing is faster than reading; reading is faster than listening. If I had listened to what was suggested to me, I would probably have an MBA today, but $10 million less. So yes, kids, if you read this in a few years and the school system hasn’t changed dramatically, I think there are better ways to get all the knowledge needed to be an entrepreneur. Or probably to be whatever you want to be.

I spoke a lot about mentors and how I made millions by writing handwritten letters to more successful individuals. Having a role model, someone who takes care of you and shows you what works and what doesn’t, is probably the kind of university you are looking for. In addition to that, we live in an age of infinite opportunity. Everything you want to learn is online. You just need a deep desire to learn. Be a lifelong learner. The acquisition of wisdom is a moral duty. It’s not something you do just to advance in life. There’s a very important corollary to that idea: you must be hooked on lifelong learning. Without it, you won’t do very well. You won’t get far in life based on what you already know. You will advance in life by what you learn after you leave here.»
