The 1984 presidential election cycle featured incumbent President Ronald Reagan, a Republican, and former Vice President Walter Mondale, the Democratic nominee. The first debate was a 90minute discussion, focusing on the economy and domestic policy. Moderated by Barbara Walters of ABC, with questions posed by a panel of journalists, it took place on October 7, 1984, in Louisville, Kentucky.
