Texas Archive of the Moving Image

The oldest known films of Texas document the wreckage of the 1900 Galveston Hurricane. Here, combined with interviews with survivors Caroline Schaper Harris and King Vidor (Academy Awardnominated director), they tell the story of the deadliest natural disaster and the worst hurricane in U.S. history. Produced by the Texas Archive of the Moving Image, this video features videos from the archive along with additional archival imagery.

The video features interviews contributed by the Galveston and Texas History Center Rosenberg Library as well as footage from the Internet Archive and Library of Congress. Watch these videos and others about the Galveston Hurricane at: https://bit.ly/3a1tbNh

Are you an educator? TAMI has lesson plans that incorporate this video as well as the original archival footage of the hurricane wreckage for Grades 48 (https://bit.ly/3sTYXoa) and 912 (https://bit.ly/3sKfISq).

Produced for the Texas Moving Image Archive Program, the Texas Archive of the Moving Image's partnership with the Office of the Governor's Texas Film Commission.
