Recrystallization is a powerful method for purifying solid compounds. In this video, I give a brief overview of the technique and demonstrate how to carry out a recrystallization of an unknown organic compound. Purification of the compound is then confirmed by TLC.

This experiment is based on a procedure described in the CHEM 216 Lab Manual, which was prepared by several members of the organic chemistry faculty at Cal Poly.
