This is the Red Admiral butterfly. At the beginning of the video you can see the pupa (Chrysalis) stage and then you can also see the butterfly coming out of the pupa (Chrysalis). This video was a mix of several videos that I recorded of two butterflies that I took care of and watched their entire transformation, after this process, I released them in the wild. This is a species widely distributed across temperate regions of North Africa, North and Central America, Europe, Asia, and island regions of Hawaii, and the Caribbean. In Portugal, it is a very common species and is well distributed from the north to the south of the country. It can also be found in the Azores and Madeira archipelagos. It is a medium sized butterfly with black wings, red bands, and white spots. Females of this species of butterfly lay their green eggs on plants of several species of the (Urticaceae) family and also on the false nettle plant (Boehmeria cylindrica). During the cold, this species migrates to places with more pleasant temperatures and they can travel more than 2,000 km in search of an environment that offers them better conditions for survival.
