To celebrate the release of the 'Joni ReImagined' album by Redtenbacher's Funkestra with Mim Grey, Jo Harman, Sarah Jane Morris, Hamish Stuart, Mike Mayfield and Jana Varga, the Masterlink Sessions team have joined forces with contemporary dance artists Antonia Latz and Leya Matulessy.

They orchestratred their performance to Mike Mayfield's heartfelt rendition of Joni Mitchell's 'River' matching it at every level.

Completely unfaced by freezing winds, hail, rain, uneven surfaces and undercover locations the two dancers have really captured the bitter beauty of this song.

"Redtenbacher’s Funkestra‘s interpretation of Joni Mitchel‘s ‘River’ feat. Mike Mayfield inspired us in its narrative and sound: We picked up on what felt like a division of nostalgically wishful reminiscence versus a frustrated and regretful reality. We translated this duality into realms of past and present and built a loose concept around a theme of ambiguous loss which set the overall tone.
Connected to this, ‘River’ felt like a gentle invitation to dig deeper into its emotional density and complexity. The sound gave a guideline whilst permitting space to play with repainting the canvas of a legendary song, hinting at a story but leaving room to associate freely.
Having gone into the devising process in late October, the darkness of the season aligned with what we made River out to be." (Antonia Latz, July 2024)
