The little town of SaintMaximinlaSaintBaume was transformed on December 12, 1279 by the discovery in the crypt of SaintMaximin of a sarcophagus that was proclaimed to be the tomb of Mary Magdalene.

Why here?

Mary Magdalene fled the Holy Land with her brother Lazarus and Maximin, a 3rd century martyr and landed at SaintesMariesdela Mer, in the Camarque near Arles. She converted the local people of Marseilles and retired to a cave in the SainteBaume mountains.
