Destination Adventure

Hot Springs and waterfalls, two of the greatest natural things top enjoy outdoors. I had some great plans for this weeks adventure, but unfortunately those plans had to change, and I sure am happy they did. I have never had the chance to explore the Douglas Channel before, or even the areas around Kitimat, and a whole new door has opened for adventures. This area is so full of beauty and life, and the locals are the icing on the cake.

I knew of that beauty camp spot on the Kitimat River from my first ever trip north with the MoHo. Can you believe I even took that big rig down into there? This season, with the new rig it was obviously no problem at all, and we even got to take the rig right down onto the beach. Right away we were greeted by a couple of the full time residents staying at the camp spot, and meeting Don, I knew I wanted to sit down for a chat. We shared fishing stories and travel stories over a couple of drinks, and he was kind enough to share some local leads too.

There are several Hot Springs on the Douglas Channel, but the only one to safely access with a boat my size in a day is Weewanie. The locals have done an amazing job constructing the pools and the building at this spring, and it is far enough from civilization that you will likely be the only one soaking. If you do get the opportunity to head down the channel for some hot springin, I definitely recommend a stop at Jesse Falls. Waterfalls into the ocean, though beautiful, are really not uncommon, but Jesse Falls are very unique. There is no river flowing from Jesse Lake, it is a straight shot from the end of the lake right down into the Pacific Ocean. From the boat it is difficult to see, but with a drone you get a glorious view of the lake, and the drop off into the ocean.

Hot Springs, Waterfalls and good company aside, how about some good meals too! We spent the past couple of weeks pulling up empty traps, it was so nice to finally see some colour coming up. We had two successful days out there, and enjoyed some incredible fresh seafood feasts. Another great adventure for the books.
