The symphony remains, however, an almost impossible piece to get right, although some versions come very, very close. We consider Walton's own (Warner), Haitink (Warner), Daniel (Naxos), Mackerras (Warner), Slatkin (Virgin/Warner), Gibson (Chandos), Thomson (Chandos), Litton (Decca), and Previn (RCA).
