Since we covered Gears of War in the past I also wanted to give some attention to Sony's exclusive FPS game in the form of Resistance. Though they also have the Killzone series, Resistance was born on the PlayStation 3 generation just like Gears was on the Xbox 360.
Resistance itself was a launch title and the first game I owned when I bought a PS3. It was made by the development team who created Ratchet and Clank and features an alternate take on history where aliens invade Earth during the 50's and we get to play around with all kinds of whacky weapons.
The coolest thing about this game in my opinion is how epic it feels in scale. Unfortunately that becomes less and less in the later levels of the campaign, but for the first half there are many moments where you are fighting alongside dozens of characters and it feels really large in scale. This was partly because they wanted to showcase the power of the PlayStation 3 and how much action it could handle on screen. It's a bit of a shame that this has become less of a priority in newer generation of consoles. I would love to see how epic battles can be on the current generations of consoles.
Resistance Fall of Man is still very enjoyable today with great pacing, tight action and plenty of weapons to play around with. The split screen coop is also great and overall this is just a game that has stood the test of time.
