Restoration Antique Talwar Saber

Screws And Tools

Hi! Today, the restoration of the antique Talwar. The talwar is an Indian saber. This item is about the middle of the 19th century (18301860). The condition is not bad, but there is a lot of rust and a very careful restoration is required. I'm starting to restore the item. This subject is not mine.

First of all, I used vinegar to make the rust softer and more pliable. A day later, I used baking soda and cleaning agent to remove the top layer of rust. Next, I used a special cleansing mild remedy and a day later I got a good effect.

The next step was the final cleaning of the blade and handle from rust using soda, cleaning agent and charcoal. After that, I used velvet paper and a piece of genuine leather. At the end of the process, I wiped the blade well with oil and a soft cloth.

I cleaned the handle of the saber with a soft iron brush, after cleaning I covered the iron handle with a protective layer to preserve the remaining rust.
I made the scabbard of the saber out of wood, it took a lot of time because of the large bend of the Talwar. I glued the scabbard with red velvet and made a suspension (although more often the saber was worn without a suspension).
And of course, I conducted a test of a nonsharpened saber. Don't forget to share this video.

Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!
