In October 2018 I was invited to be a guest on the giant selfunloading laker STEWART J. CORT, operated by the Interlake Steamship Co., on a round trip from the Soo Locks to Burns Harbor, Indiana, up to Superior, Wisconsin, and back down to the locks. The CORT, built in 1972, was the first 1,000foot vessel on the Great Lakes. She hauls taconite (pelletized iron ore) for steelmaker ArcelorMittal. Thanks to Capt. Greg Sipper, Chief Engineer Mark Sipper, Mike Sipper, the Stewart J. Cort's crew and the Interlake Steamship Co. for making me feel so welcome.
