Bike security is a very important topic especially if you have an ebike. Ebikes are way more expensive than regular bikes and they are much more attractive for any potential thEft. Just a single battery may cost up to 1000 Euros. So if you have an ebike you need to think twice before leaving it outside without a good protection and some solid bike locks and chains + some additional accessories that will prevent your bike from being stolen. Like Apple’s AirTag Bluetooth tracker hidden inside your bike’s frame.

My security setup is next:
1 small uLock to block my rear wheel with motor. Im using it when Im leaving my ebike for a longer time.
1 Big Heavy ULock that im using to attach my bikes frame to something solid. Its very heavy you can even kill you bike thief with it.
1 solid chain to attach my front wheel and frame at the same time. So it’s a double trouble for a bag guy.

+ I installed an AirTag inside my controller box. That way its hidden inside and it will take some time for a bad guy to discover it. I will be able probably to find my bike faster then he will be able to resell it so someone else.
To install and AirTag inside your bike you will need to open its controller compartment under the battery with a simple screw driver. Put your AirTag inside. And you are ready to go. At a first glance you have no idea that a bluetooth tracker is hidden inside.

I added also a gps protected sticker just as additional mesure do discourage a potential motherucker from touching my bike. But this time my ebike is tracked in real time thanks to small AirTag secretly hidden inside ;)

You should know that if someone really wants to get you bike he will be able do that. But you can make it harder. Well its almost impossible to guarantee a 100% safety but I will try to give you some tips to reduce the probability of bike theft up to zero

Store your bike at home or in safe place inside. Just by keeping your bike inside will decrease dramatically chances of potential theft.

Remove your battery when you are leaving your bike outside. An ebike without a battery is not an ebike. So it will be less attractive for thieves.

Invest some money in good and solid locks. Dont save your money on security and safety. You already paid a price for the bike, so it would be stupid to save money on security. A good lock is better than any insurance.

You should have different types of bike locks. You see different locks have its advantages and disadvantages. By combining different models and types you are making it harder to unlock. Your thieve may be specialised in one type of locks but he will be unable to cut a solid U type Lock. And it will take him more time to do that so he will probably change his plans.

You should not have any flexible locks at all. They are just useless. Even expensive flexible locks are easily cuttable without any special tools. just try to avoid this type of products.

You need to have at least 1 solid ulock. The advantages of this lock are multiple. Its very solid and you need to have special tools to be able to open it. Amator thieves will probably not even try to play with it. If he sees 2 bikes. One with cheap flexible shit and the second one with Ulock he will chose to take the first one.

Always attach your bike to a solid metal bar or something that isn’t easy do cut. Sometimes its easier to cut the barrier than your chain. Pay attention to that.

if you have an iPhone, just go and get yourself Airtag. its not a 100% anti theft solution but it may give you a big chance to find your stolen bike. So why not to try it.

Buy a fake GPStracking sticker. It may discourage a bad guy to take your ebike. You know it's a basic psychology. You never know if it has actually gps tracking inside or not. You can find these stickers online for just a couple of euros.
