This was the first stop on our 1000mile rockhounding road trip. The amount of obsidian that can be found in this area is somewhat overwhelming.

I would say that this isn't really a good place for your first rockhounding trip, the area is hot and dry, the roads are rough, and pretty much everything is covered in a layer of broken glass, so if you have dogs, or kids that might be something to factor in.

This video is a little all over the place, but I think it's an accurate representation of what it's like at Little Glass Butte and what you can find.
