✔About this Episode:
Ever since we announced Season 5 in Alaska, we’ve been hearing horror stories about Alaska. In a way, we’re grateful because it helped us take it seriously and make the proper upgrades to our Ford F250 and Grand Design Reflection. It also set our expectations high…allowing us to think it was much easier than we thought.

There was only one section of the 1,400 mile journey that was “bad” with two gravel stretches under construction and dozens of frost heaves (unpredictable and unlevel sections of the road). Even these sections we did not find difficult, but it’s important to mention that we traveled this section in late June and perhaps the roads were improved since they thawed in the spring. Also, if a rig was overweight or driving too fast, the frost heaves could easily cause axle or leaf spring issues. For this reason, we’re glad that we added air to our truck and MORryde suspension to the trailer. It’s also important to mention that we had zero desire to drive routes such as the Top of the World Highway or visit Chicken, AK that would have added extra miles and gravel roads. We consider these to be “checklist destinations”. We came to AK for wildlife and adventure. Everyone has their own reasons, but it’s important to know why you’re going before you leave or you could be disappointed. It’s a big place and trying to do it all can be overwhelming.
