The Tongariro Northern Circuit is one of the ten Great Walks of New Zealand, and I'm currently on a mission to complete all of them! This track, located in the central North Island region, is an adventure through wild and violent volcanic landscape, with some of the most unique terrain you'll find in New Zealand and a traverse of an active volcano.

Join me as I hike the Tongariro Northern Circuit Great Walk in an clockwise direction over 3 days from Whakapapa Village via Mangatepopo, Oturere and Waihohonu Huts. In this episode I journey from Mangatepopo Village in the Tongariro National Park region across and through undulating alpine tussock and volcanic valleys on the Mangatepopo Track before spending the night at Mangatepopo Track. The next day, I attempt the traverse of Mt Tongariro to the highest point at Red Crater (1868m) in strong winds and thick cloud cover.
