S-125 M1 'Petšora' (English subtitles)

Follow
Satunnaista sotilashistoriaa

In 1979, Finland bought three "S125 M1 Petsora" antiaircraft missile batteries from the Soviet Union. In Finland it was named "Ilmatorjuntaohjus 79" (ITO 79), the NATO designation was "SA3 GOA".

S125 is technically a very interesting weapon system. Based on rudimentary electron tube technology, it was very versatile. There is a reason why it was the S125 that was the first heavy antiaircraft missile system in many countries, and why the 60yearold weapon is still in service.

The will be two separate videos about S125 Petšor. This one covers the technology, the next video will look at its history in Finland.

Experts from the Air Defence Museum have contributed to the video. Thanks to the Air Defence Museum for their help: https://ilmatorjuntamuseo.fi/en/
